First Vessel Created
This piece is a very round and tall bowl like vessel, meant to be used as a flower vase. It's relatively smooth, and on one side of the vessel are flowers made to look like roses. The roses give the vessel more detail and make it more interesting to look at.
The elements that were used for this vessel are shape and color. The shape is organic, almost spherical with flower details that make it ungeometric. The color is bright and warm to support the atmosphere of potential flowers that it could hold. The inspiration came from a painter named Rene Magritte who paints very surreal images who opts for more vivid colors rather than neutrals. This organic vessel was made to hold something as organic as flowers. The flowers sticking out of the almost sphere could symbolize how beauty can't actually be contained, it will find a way. While making it I was focusing on making the sphere smooth and pleasant to look at, rather than being lumpy and jagged. That would take away from the detail of the flowers. I like this ceramic piece, I accomplished what I wanted through its shape and the details. In my opinion it's pleasing to look at. Its simple design is calming but also keeps the interest of any viewer, much like the work of Magritte, who's painting take simple things and turn them into more abstract images. |
